Short version: swiftcentre.org sets no cookies. There is nothing to accept, nothing to refuse, and so no cookie banner.
This page explains that properly, because "we don't use cookies" is unusual enough to be worth showing rather than just asserting.
What a cookie is
A small file a website asks your browser to keep, so it can recognise you when you come back. Cookies are how sites remember you're logged in — and also how advertising networks follow people between websites.
What this site does
Nothing that needs one. There are no accounts to log into and no shopping basket to remember, so there is no reason for this site to store anything in your browser.
Specifically, this website does not use:
- Cookies of any kind, essential or otherwise
- Analytics — no Google Analytics, no page-view counting, no visitor tracking
- Advertising or tracking pixels, and no ad networks
- Local storage or session storage in your browser
- Third-party requests. Every file that makes up a page — including the typefaces — is served from swiftcentre.org. Nothing is fetched from anyone else's server, so no other company learns that you visited.
That last point is deliberate. Fonts used to load from Google's servers, which told Google your IP address on every page view. We now host them ourselves.
Where cookies can still appear
Two places, both of which involve you choosing to go somewhere else.
Our forecasting application. A small number of older archive articles show charts as images that link through to app.swiftcentre.org. That is our own application, but a separate one, and it does set a cookie to measure usage. It only applies if you follow one of those links.
Substack. Our newsletter and full articles are published on Substack. Clicking through takes you to Substack's website, which uses its own cookies under its own policy.
Controlling cookies anyway
You don't need to do anything for this site. If you want to manage cookies in general, every browser lets you view, block and delete them through its privacy settings, and offers a private browsing mode that discards them when you close the window.
If this changes
If we ever add analytics or anything else that needs a cookie, we will ask for your consent before setting it, and update this page first. We won't add tracking quietly.
